In April 2025, Charlotte ran the Manchester Marathon to raise funds for Wigan & Leigh Hospice, as her way of saying thank you for the great care being provided to her best friends Mum, Suzanne. Here is her story.
“This was my first ever marathon, I was inspired last year when I attended the Manchester Marathon to support my friend. I wasted no time and signed up for 2025 shortly after and then began training!
However, towards the end of March 2025 I fell ill and couldn’t train for a few weeks. I was gutted because I felt all my hard work and training had gone to waste.
Just as I was about to pull out of the Marathon, we got the news that my best friends amazing Mum, Suzanne, had been admitted to the Inpatient Unit at Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
Suzanne and her family received such incredible help and care during her time on the ward, so I decided to run the marathon as a way of saying thank you to the hospice for all they have done for everyone.
I was no longer concerned with what time I finished in, as doing it was an achievement in itself. The Hospice is such a worthy cause, and I kept this in the centre of my mind when I crossed the finish line.
I want to say thank you to everyone at Wigan & Leigh Hospice for all that you do for so many families.”
Charlotte has raised over £2,400 for the hospice through her fundraising!
